Prayer to the 7 Directions

Offering words of acknowledgment to the 7 directions is a practice of many indigenous cultures.

Over a period of time, I would wake each morning and orient to my surroundings, letting myself pause at each direction and feel the gift of existence. Words came, then melody, and eventually I had a song!

Singing it amplified my sense of gratitude for nature, the universe, our interconnectedness as human beings, and all the seen and unseen support around us.

The 7 directions are: 

~ The 4 cardinal directions (East, South, North, West)

~ Earth below

~ Sky above

~ Center (of you!)

You can face each direction as you listen (or sing!) to this song, starting with the East. When you get to Earth you might lower down to touch the ground, then reach upwards for Sky, and finish with hands on your body for Center.
